The C-16 was introduced in 1984 at the summer CES along with the Plus 4. The C-16 a scaled down version of the Plus 4 was designed to replace the aging VIC-20 which was discontinued in the spring of 1984. The C-16 came with 16k of RAM and contained the new BASIC 3.5, a built-in machine language monitor, and screen windowing capability. There is also a rear port for memory expansion up to the full 64k. Commodore targeted this computer as an entry level computer for consumers who weren't sure of spending a lot of money to try out a computer. As with the Plus 4, the C-16 was not compatible with most of the VIC-20's or C-64's peripherals and none of their software.
